Help my game out

I play a really conservative, tight game. I play and raise with the "good" hands and throw away the "bad" hands. The group I play withI would say plays what I consider "loose" but I guess not really. They all do alot of raising before the flop, usually with A-X off suit (low kickers) and I feel like I get bullied out of alot of pots because I just wont do it with anything but the top 10 hands.

Any advise, suggestions, comments ect.?

Do you play position at all? Do you ever push back? These guys are often real "respectful" of a reraise. If the flop is junk they may put you on a pocket pair even if dont have one and you can take down some nice pots by 3 betting preflop.

If you want to play a tight game-great. But dont give the image as a pushover either. A couple of days ago I was in a sit and go and we were down to 4 players w/ 3 getting into the money. I was the short stack w/ 700 to 1100, 2 others had 1800-2100 and one was over 3000. We went 5 rounds of trading blinds and the guy on my right pushed me off every one of my big blinds. He would put me all in each time, my best cards to call was J 2, and I didnt want to risk the tourney on that. Luckily, I went all in the next hand from the small 4 of those w/ a weak K or Q and got a fold.

My point is that when I showed that I could be pushed of a pot, he did kept pounding on me (like he should). I know that he didnt have a hand each time-but it didnt matter.

My brother is ultra aggresive. I usually end up beating
him though by being patient. It's like I'm the guillitine, and
he keeps poking his head in and out. I also like to give
off fake tells. One good one, is to sit up, be real quiet, and
don't look at your cards, like you already have it won.
Or, just whatever you think they think you would do if
you had a good hand. These guys are probably reading
you, and pushing you off any draw you may have. It's
a mindscrew with many people. Be the screwdriver. 8)

I play position...using it to play some hands I normally wouldn't...prime example was an 8 5 off suit that flopped a set last night. The only time I usually push back is when I have something (2 over cards, suited connectors SOMETIMES) which in iteself is probably a tell.

Triad: Do they fold to you when you come in? That's when you can tell you are playing to mathematically.

Also, does your tight game net you money?

If your answers are No and Yes, respectively, I'd say you're doing OK. What you need to do is take the fact that you basically know what you are going to do pre-flop and spend a lot of folded hands working on prognosticating your opponents' hands. . . before long, you'll know when to open up, neh?

Well my tight game WOULD net me money but usually after playing for 3+ hours - I make a really bad call and lose.

This has happened the last 4 times playing. I dont know why...I think its because I always think people are bluffing.

For example, last night I was down to about $15 in chips on the SB, and limped in with 10 8. Flop comes down 10(diamond), 3, X(Diamond) (what it was I cant remmeber) and my opponent bet BIG. Knocked everyone out but me - I flopped top pair and raised...he then put me all in and I called. He had the 3 4 diamond....on the flush draw but he had a pair of 3's. Fourth street was no help to either of us and I thought I was going to double up...but the River came down a 3 and he got the Set...

I don't think it was a bad call on my part, maybe a little dangerous but I thought I had a good read on this guy. Oh well.

well yeah...

but something you gotta do is when you hit a certain point, and you know your game is going to be off... DONT PLAY ANYMORE...

you said after 3 hours of playing you start sucking... so then STOP PLAYING or STAY SHARP... maybe getting you guys starting earlier would help...

just gotta stay as SHARP as possible..

and remember sometimes you will lose, no matter how great you are...

Limping in on a 10 8 . . . were they suited?

I will limp with 10 8 in the right game, but to call a big raise with top pair and a crappy kicker is not showing good judgement, imo. You really want to flop 2 pair, trips or a straight in order to call a reraise.

all i know is that last night i played a fish that i've took for about a grand in the last 6 months and he hurt me last night. i never caught anything above two pair. i guess it was his turn to make his odd's. just my 2 cents
