I wonder.....
... who the chip manufacturer in China is? I've found a couple of sites who use 5star and another place (dont know name) for distributing. All of these sites are out of the same products.
....how to get ahold of this place in china to become a distributer myself
....how much off the top 5star is taking for distribution fee's
I talked to the guy at www.gamersguildhobbies.com and he said that the manufacturer ships the product on a monthly basis....explaining why 5star had chips for a short period of time and are now out again (and will be until april).
Anyone got ideas as to the best way to find this mysterious Chinees Manu.? And dont say google it, cause I've beat the hell out google for the past 2 weeks trying to get some info (i got a couple of names and numbers to call)
hey what else am i suppose to do at work anyways

How about just call them (5star, pokerchip.com, chipmart, etc...) directly and just bluntly ask them over the phone?
They say f off then go to the next dealer and see what they say. I cant imagine they wont tell you where they get their shipments from because inorder to be able to order from a distributor you need to have that distributor's or wholesale license. So they should know that its not like you will be able to get the chips from them anyways. You have to get a license. From there you can call the distrubitor and see about where or how to apply for the license. I imagine that there is a big distribution company here in the US that is getting large amounts of chips from the manufacturing plant in China and distributing it to ALL the chip dealers. I dont think 5star is getting it directly from China. They too have to go through someone.
If that doesnt work - try just asking around other companies (no necessarily poker or casino supply companies) like salt water fish for example. Call them and ask how they get exotic fish, what distributor they go through, and how can you possibly find out where another company is getting their supplies from. They might have suggestions or atleast give you the process and steps it takes to get the merchandise on the shevles. With that knowledge maybe then it might lead you in the right direction.
*shrug* just some thoughts

I tried doing some searches using Copernic 2001 search engine... and Im finding about 100000000000000 different poker supply/chip sites. Im not sure if it would even be worth it for you to become a chip distributor seeing how there is alot of competition out there already. You probably will only be making a few cents of each order. And to make it worthwhile have to deal in the thousands and thousands of orders to make it worth your time.
But its a still a good thought.

i disagree wada... that is, assuming you're not correct about the couple cent markup.
i have a feeling the markup on these is quite a bit. maybe i'm wrong, but them chinese make just about anything and everything now adays, and they're damn good at doing it at dirt cheap prices. look at walmart... they're ginormous now because of the cheap prices of chinese manufactured goods.
i bet those dice chips cost like 10 cents to make and ship over here... and you see them online anywhere from what... 26 cents to 46 cents each.
if you can get in with whoevers making those over in china... you might be able to sell them for say... 15 cents... or 20 cents... and corner the market.
i'm just guessing blind here though... just my thoughts on the subject.

This may not be the case, But if that company distributes to that many people. I doubt they would let you sell them for that cheap of a mark-up (again assuming your assumption is correct) Because the umpteen other distributers that use them would get mad that joe blow is undercutting them with the same product. And while this may work with a few cents. Knocking off .05-.10 would really turn around to hurt the manu's business in the end, if other distributers went elsewhere.
But that's just me having fun with assumptions.
Also, since they are out all of the time. (or atleast lately) Why sell your chips for .05 cents less. And be out 2 weeks before the other guy. When they will end up selling all of their chips within the month at .05 cents more than you?
I say set it up and sell for the same price. I'll stand in line to be your first customer.

Thats a good possibility about the mark up on price, as well as lowering the price and running out of stock then having your competitor sell his for the .05 more since you're out of stock.
Do a search on poker chips and see how many sites are out there that are selling poker chips. Thats probably going to be the biggest problem to deal with. Of course advertising, word of mouth, and time will help you prevail.
Could definitely be worth a shot. Of course you guys would agree - more information and education on the subject is needed.
