Cleaning chips?

My friends and I sort of co-own (we used a simple 2 chip rake from each game we played for a month to buy a set of these) 11.5 gram dice chips with edge spots (the kind you get on 5 star deal).

After now three months of use, they're getting kind of.... dirty. Not filthy or incredibly noticeable, but noticeable to those who use them often enough. Is there any way to clean the chips safely to restore them to their original beauty?

This is probably not a good idea if you have high quality chips. It's OK with the plastic ones, but not with clay ones.

For clay, use a toothbrush or something similar with a mild detergent and hand clean them.

These are my chips, granted, not nearly as many though. I still have 300, so is a toothbrush the best way, or is there a quicker way?

So long as you don't heat them up too much, a washer machine will probably do.

This question had to come up sooner or later.

Seriously---NEVER, EVER machine wash any good quality chips. It can easily destroy them, or likely diminish their value by chipping, fading, breaking, bending, warping...you name it.

The chip collectors' message board has an FAQ section on cleaning chips, complete with horror stories of every kind. The general consensus is to clean them with detergent--NEVER bleach--and a soft nylon bristle brush. do not soak them more than 10 or 15 minutes. Do not let them sit wet and stacked up for too long either. Dry them to get the water off and then let them air dry while lying FLAT.

You can actually buy chip cleaning kits, but it really isn't necessary. Once you get them clean some people then seal them with Armour-all. I don't think I'd do that...but some do. If you have specific questions you can post them at thechipboard.com and get dozens of expert answers.

I actually lay them all out on the floor after soaking in beef broth and let my dogs lick them clean
