Chicagoland and NW Indiana Tournaments!
Just spoke with Harrah's East Chicago and Trump-Indiana today and got a lot of great info!
1) Harrah's is offering every on every Thursday in April a $300 + $40 Tournament for free entry into the WSOP. The winner gets the 10k buy-in, plus travel. No money is paid out to the winner, but 2nd/3rd/4th place gets paid out cash. PS- only 60 players per tournament- so get your phone call/deposit in advance-asap!
2) I called up Trump-Indiana's new poker room if they are going to start holding tournaments. By the way, I feel that Trump's poker room is the best in the Midwest. They have a lot of tables and great games; Hold'em, stud, H/L stud, omaha, and a 15/30-H/L Omaha-Stud game (PLUS- the only monetary, no-limit, Hold'em game in the area!- minimum buy-in $200) Also, they have big screen TV's, food ordering, and a good rake %.
Anyway, the Poker Room Manager told me that they will be getting tourneys in the near future- but for sure they will be holding on Saturday, May 8th a Bravo Channel Celebrity Tournament!
Off the record- Bravo told the casino that John Cuzak, Bill Corrigan, and Jim Bulushi are "interested" and "available"- but nothing is set in stone yet!
PS: this chairity event will close down the poker action for the day, but not all of the players in the tourney will be celebs! Between now and the last week in April- players who are rated for more than 110 hours are eligible to win a seat at this celebrity table! The Manager told me that the person will be picked randomly amongst the eligible rated players.
Hey Guys- a lot has changed in the past year, or so! I'm sorry to say, but I feel we should take advantage of these games/tournaments/poker rooms while they're here! If you remember- not too long ago Blue Chip, Empress-Joliet, and Empress-IN all had poker rooms! I remember just a couple of years ago Harrah's-IN and Hollywood- N. Aurora, IL both almost closed their poker rooms, if it were not for the petitions against it! Remember!!!, most casinos look at Poker Rooms as a service rather than a money maker (especially in IL)! Just a few dozen slot machines in place of a poker room will bring double the profits of a room and without having to pay managers and dealers! SO, lets all get out there and show them that we are not a fad - but we are here to stay!
