Poker table cloth
For those of you that have made your own poker tables what cloth did you use? I'm looking for what works and what doesn't without spending $75+ on cloth.
My first table top (and the one I'm still using) has 100% acryllic felt and it's quite aweful. I "mowed" it a few weeks ago with a beard trimmer cause it was getting too fuzy.
I looked at some velveteen at a cloth store today and thought it might work well. Anyone used it?

don't be cheap. We have a five page thread on building poker tables already... anything that's worth doing, is worth doing right.
Buy 21 ounce pool table felt, you'll be happy you did.

If I could find burgandy speed cloth then I'd probably go with that, but I can't... but the 21 ounce pool table felt is like $75 for the cheapest!!

My dad made a kitchen table that is great for cards! It's made out of native pine and the top is hardwood flooring, with a heavy polyeurythane coat . . . it's a great table, and it looks really, really good.

Your nearest fabric store is the best place to go for the cheapes material. If need be take a deck of cards unroll the mater and play a hand on it, "Try it before you buy it!!" We had bought 100% polyester Felt, it balls up and isnt worth it. The second fabric that was test driven was the Wool felt doesnt ball up and lets the cards fly too.......I have seen two people talk about velvet havent treid it yet but seems like it work too.

Use my dining room table as card table. Created an overlay with felt underneath and a fabric called "Trigger" for the playing surface. Purchased at Walmart. Had the two materials sewn together and put a drawstring cord between the two fabrics. Pull the string and table is ready to go. Have used it about five times and have dry cleaned it once. Cleans well and cards slide. With felt underneath, creates a nice pad.
Total investment: $18.00 and one seamstress with talent. Seamstress was an in-kind service. Been real pleased with results so far without a large investment. Table is 72" x 55" oval.
