hand questions..flushes..straights
what happens when there is an on board straight or an onboard flush?
ALSO
player one has 7 2o
player two has 9 2o
A K Q 2 4 is community
who wins..since both of them can claim the ace as the high card? does it go to hands or does it split?

First of all if there is an on board straight or flush and it is the highest straight or flush anyone has then all remaining players split the pot.
Now for the second question Player One would have AKQ22 and Player Two would have AKQ22 since both of them would take the highest kickers. This would mean there would be a split pot.
If the situation was different however say:
Player one 72o
Player two Q2o
and the board was AK924 then Player one would have AK922 and Player Two would have AKQ22 and would win because Q beats 9.
Hope that helps.
