PT2 vs PT3 or HEM

Postby Jauron » Wed May 06, 2009 5:14 pm GMT

I have PT2 with the HUD, and am wondering how much better PT3 or HEM is (I'm currently leaning toward HEM if I upgrade).

I know they both have 3bet stats, but am not real clear on other improvements. I play micro stakes 6max cash and I'm a break even player. (I'd be a marginal winner if I had any rakeback) I only 4table ATM and that may not change in the near future.

I've been doing a lot of reading the last month or so, and have drastically changed the way I think about the game. Clearly I have some work to do, so I'm not even sure upgrade will help if I can't crush 10NL yet. Being a long time loser on-line at least break even is improvement... really hope breakthrough to profit is around the corner.

Do I just stick it out with PT2 until I start showing a profit over a decent sample size or upgrade will help enough to do it? Is there a link to new features in both so I can compare or can anyone just tell me?

Thoughts?

1) Where are you playing? I seem to remember that one of the sites has a real harsh rake for NL10 players. I think it was FT and was 10% rake.

2) If you are going to upgrade then go with HEM. It absolutely blows PT out the window. The HUD is great and completely customisable, there are literally hundreds of stats and well, it's just great.

That said, with PT2 you should really be beating NL10 and perhaps instead of an upgrade of software (The stats in PT haven't helped you so far) you may be better off subscribing to a coaching site and watching some 6 max vids than buying HEM.

PS is where I play, and I have no idea if the rake is bad or not.

I'll give some more thought to a subscription site, is card runners really worth the money? $240 for 6 months seems steep for my stakes.
Maybe there is a more affordable site I can try first?

i think stox is 20 a month or thereabout, no subscription fee
some other sites are about 30$ per month like deucescracked or leggopoker

Thanks for the info

The problem with having an 8K hand good run (+14BI) followed by 8K I runz like dog shit (-18BI downswing) is it's tough to know which to believe, but I'm gonna assume I just got lucky for a while and I need the extra help.

I'll deff look into those sites, thanks again.

HEM. IF you're a micro player it only costs $50. PT3 will cost you $80.

I used the trial periods for both and HEM was so nice.

If you cant find your problem with PT2 I dont think HEM or PT3 will help. From what I understand PT3 is set up a little differently then PT2 and the HUD is included. I dont know about HEM. (if you upgrade to PT3 and you own PT2 you get an $11 dollar discount, for what its worth)

I cant say for sure but it sounds like you need to focus more and take less chances.

You referenced +14BI, is that buy in?
In PT2 whats your "True Hourly Rate" I dont have PT here on this comp but I believe its in the "MISC. stats" section or in the "sessions played" section.

I'm just a recreational 4-tabler as well, I used PT2, and I heartily recommend HEM. It's so easy to filter for any situation you can think of to analyze your game and find leaks. And you can get the micro stakes version (50NL and under) for cheaper. You can really get by with PT2, but I think if you upgrade, you'll say, why didn't I do this sooner?

10NL rake at PS is the standard 5%. At FT, it used to be 10%, but since they added stakes down to .01/.02, it is now 6.66%. If you got rackback, this would drop to 4.78%, so it's breakeven. But if you ever get to 25NL (where the rake is 5% as well), the difference with rackback is HUGE. Like I said, I 4-table, so my volume is no where near enough to take advantage of PS VIP levels. My rakeback at FT is a nice boost to my winrate.

I'm right with you on how expensive training sites are compared to our stakes. One thing I just took advantage of was cardrunners/stox arrangement with FT at trulyfreepokertraining.com. If you earn enough FTPs during a calendar month, you get a free month subscription. You don't have to actually SPEND the points, nor is your rackback affected. And the monthly target is pro-rated weekly; meaning, in April I earned 1/4 the points needed to get a month subscription to stox, so they gave me 1 weeks free membership. I haven't played a hand in the last seven days, I've been watching videos.

PT2 should be overkill by itself for microstakes.

Having said that I have PT3 and HEM, I use HEM exclusively right now. PT3 on release was pathetic, I don't know if it's improved and i don't care, I'm very happy with HEM.

yeah buy-ins.

For May my hourly rate is 6.2BB/hour over 3800+ hands, overall it's 0.45 over 17K. I did tighten up a bit lately especially in blinds and UTG.
