Hello all, new to the site and I love it. A quick question. I am fairly new to poker, I have been playing for about 6 months micro stakes. I top off at the .05/.10 tables. I have average about 100 hands a day.

For a while I was leaking chips like a broke dam. I have tightened up my play significantly and this has led to substantial improvements in my game. However, I still have one major problem and that is getting and keeping in mind an accurate read on my opponents when there are 8 of them at the table.

How do you do it? Do you put people into general categories, do you take notes? I have been working really hard at it and still seem to miss key reads in specific situations. What are suggestions and recommendations on how to improve my ability to read other people in online games? Thanks in advance.

Firstly, at the stakes you play unless it is a small poker site you probably won't be coming up against the same amount of players a lot of the time.

If you do, well then you could take notes. Most poker sites software allows you to add notes on players.

People may also use tracking software like Holdem Manager. I wouldn't recommend that for the stakes that you are playing though.

Basically, just try concentrating. When you are not in a hand yourself, look at what the other players are showing down. Try and guess etc.

Personally, I think at the games you are playing, specific reads on players is not really that important. It will be as you move up stakes, but right now you may be best just playing your cards and identifying who are bad players rather than "This guy has check raised the turn twice with A7o" or summit.

The way I do it is . I look at my hands and the cards on table . I see what exact hands would/could beat me . Then I think back did they limp check raise call depending on which action they made I then make educated guesses on whether that are playing that hand.

I:E you got AQ flop comes JQA giving you top 2 pair . K 10 has you beat though . What did your opponent do pre flop did he raise ? Did he limp ?

Hard to do even harder to do online . But it does help a little

i heard someone say that very few people are successful at long handed micro stakes without using some sort of tracking/ odds calculator software...
