question about betting

Postby jr4jc » Wed Aug 18, 2010 8:06 am GMT

everybody around here plays that you have to call or double the BET in front of you.
this is no limit texas holdem.

the rules i read state you can raise by doubling the raise, which is different.
examples of both;

the way we play--- player 1 bets 100. player 2 raises 100 to 200 total. player 3 can call the 200 or raise to 400. [stating double the bet on the table]

rules seem to state that player 1 bets 100. player 2 raises 100 and puts out 200 total. player 3 can all the 200 or double the raise and put out 300. which is the original bet 100 and double the 100 raise, ie 200, which makes a total of 300.

what is correct.

restated
player one places a bet of 100
player two places a bet of 200
what is player 3's minimum raise???
300 or 400
------------------------------------------------------
also similar but differnt ??? is
blinds are 50 and 100. a middle position player raises 100 and puts in 200.

the small blind can double the raise to 200 and put in 250 or is it 300.

or does he have to double the 200 bet and make it 400.

i think i know the answer to these, but everybody around here plays it wrong, so it makes it confusing to me.

The size of the last raise is all that matters when considering the next action.

In your examples, the second raiser can make it 300. It doesn't matter if he's in the blinds or not, it's always 300 in that scenario.

New scenario - blinds 50/100, first player makes it 350, next player makes it 900 total, the next player wants to raise and since the last raise was from 350 to 900 which is an increase of 550, he must make it at least 1,450 to go which is 900+550. If another guy wanted to raise again, he'd still be looking at a raise of 550 if the previous guy did make it 1,450 so he'd have to go to 2,000 total.
