Raising in the Big Blind
In a loose game, say 6 limpers, why is it ok to raise in the Big Blind with 88 or 99... but NOT ok to raise with 10,10 (either NL or limit)?
Why is it ok to raise with either on the button?
Please consider position, deception, and motives for raising. Thanks

in limit i would not raise w/ 6 in the pot and a med pair. Your raise will rarely get anyone to fold. You are likely an underdog if any facecard hits on the flop. Just call and try to hit a set. DO NOT raise in limit preflop unless you have a high pair or an Ace (with the possible exception of blind stealing).
In NL w/ 6 limper you can make a raise of 5-6 times the BB and hope to win the hand preflop. If you have a caller, then hope to flop a set or have a flop of undercards. Short stacked, all in. Big stack, just call and hope for a set.
