Is this something I should do when I get my set this week? Never had clays before. Sweet pics though. They look badass.

how does mineral oil affect the chips. is it easier for them to pick up dirt or does it protect them or what, other than making them look nice???

Well, you need to put a fair amount of effort into wiping OFF the oil after you've put it on. If you don't do that, then, yes....you'll have greasy chips and that's not great.

But....if you get the oil wiped off, then your chip colors will be amazing. As far as handling, I can't really explain it, but I do like how a chip handles better after it's been oiled tha it than before.

I can not agree with John more on this.
Oiling chips is not a fast proceedure.

3 points to remember

#1 Use oil sparingly
#2 Use oil sparingly
#3 Use oil sparingly

I place a small (emphasize small) amount on a clean cloth.
Hold the cloth between my thumb and fore finger with the oiled
area between the two. Spin the edge of the chip in the cloth
pinching the sides while I spin. This keep most of the oil off
the center inlay. I let them sit for 10 min or so then wipe them
well. This will clean all the "production dust" off the chips, enhance
the colors, and I believe improves the sound some.

I use mineral oil on mine. Cheap and no odor involved and well worth the
effort. Do a test on 1 of each denom and see for yourself

Thanks for the info, after looking at those pictures I think i'm going to try and do that.
