Rules on 'seeing'

Postby Siliqua » Fri Oct 19, 2007 3:27 pm GMT

Hey, I have a question the combined efforts of 10 students at school couldn't solve today (that's the British education system for you).

Someone mentioned a rule where you can see opponents as early as post-flop, can anyone elaborate on this for me? It's a hard thing to search for, and the Holdem Wikipedia article is useless, so I thought I'd ask you guys for help. :)

Often "seeing" means calling.

Or, if two or more players are all in after the flop, since there can be no more money wagered, all players may reveal their hands.

Let us know if that cleared anything up.

Oh, no, sorry, that's not what I meant; my terminology's not great!

What this guy meant was, that once the flop's been dealt, and you've met opponents' bets (or maybe it was just one opponent), you can somehow get them to show their hand now that there are 5 cards available; like you're saying, 'what were you so confident about then?'

Is that possible?

It is not possible to see your opponents cards until all 5 community cards are dealt unless:

All players fold and the winner/a player who folded chooses to show

Like Dave said, if a player bets all his chips and is called such that no more betting can take place, both players will turn their cards face up in a tournament game and the remaining community cards will be dealt

Other than that, there is no way to see your opponents cards 'early'.

(As an aside - in a home game with relaxed rules, a player might go all-in and the other play may turn over their cards without having said call in order to try and get a reaction from the player who is all-in. This would be a rarity and definitely not allowed in a casino)

Geno, in many cash games you are allowed to show your hand early if you wish. You are generally not allowed to in tournaments.

Ah right ok, thanks guys, glad that's been cleared up. I think we'll be playing tournament rules from now then, it was a bit messy with people applying this then-unknown rule...
