Rules on when someone in a tournament leaves?
What is the rules for when someone in a tour. leaves and will not be returning to the game? I know you must deal him in and post his blinds when it's his turn. But what if he is BB and people call and no one bets. Do you have you show his cards to see if he won or is his cards automatically folded due to he is not their playing them?

Can that ever happen the player last to act doesn't realize the raise takes it down? I have seen it online, but live?

Shit online rooms allow that player to win a checked down hand, everywhere else does not. Everywhere else is right.

I don't feel like looking it up for verification, but there's a story that at some point Stu Ungar was in a tournament (may have been the Main Event) and on day 2 he went into the hospital. He had enough chips that he still cashed even though he was blinded off for the entire day.

When Miami John keeled over at the last WSOP they left his chips on the table and blinded him off but he would not have been eligible to win a hand even if, say, he was in the BB and an all-in player had shoved for less with no callers. He'd just have doubled the guy and got change without a showdown!

Lawdog, you sent me that email too, right?
Here's the answer I gave you there, for the kids at home...

If the player didn't know if he'd be back, the proper protocol would be to
post his blind and antes, deal him cards, but whenever action got to him
when he wasn't there, muck his hand. Players not at the table don't ever
have a chance of winning the pot. Additionally, players (and observers)
shouldn't be looking at his cards either. The player is the only one
entitled to look at them.
If the player was sure he wouldn't be back, in essence forfeiting, then
the protocol would be to just remove his chips from the tournament at the
moment he leaves. No cards would be dealt, it's like he was eliminated,
except his chips are no longer in the tournament pool.
Hope that helps, let me know if it doesn't.
