Short stackers how to play them ?
Hello,
Can anyone point me towards something that discusses how to effectively play against short stackers? I'm new to the game and have been playing for about 6 months online at Heracasino and I'm playing 25NL [*]. I generally do pretty well at this level, but one thing I've noticed is an overabundance of short stackers that sit at the 25NL tables and buy in for $5. If they want to play for $5, I don't understand why they don't just play 5NL and try to learn post-flop play, but that's another discussion...
Some of them are the shove-or-fold types; others actually make normal size raises and will just call raises, but they just shove the flop. I read somewhere once that when you're stealing their blinds you should make your steal-raises smaller so you lose less if they shove over you and you have to fold, but I'm clueless about any adjustments beyond that.
I get very frustrated when I sit at a table and run into one of them because if I open-raise w/AJ from MP and they shove from the SB, I don't know what to do if I don't have any hands on them in my PT. I hate to play for 20 BB w/hands like AJ and I hate continually getting into 50/50 coin flips with them for 20 BB.
Is there anything I can do that will increase my effectiveness against them? Are there any adjustments I can make to my normal game if I bump into 1 or 2 of them?
I've contemplated only playing the deep stack tables to avoid them, but there seems to be a higher proportion of good players at

Re: Short stackers how to play them ?
Against a short stack you have no implied odds and they use fold equity well, the short stack should be playing only premium hands, they can only win what they have behind, they should not be playing suited connectors, small pairs or the problem hands JQ JK TQ etc. Knowing this should help you develop your game against them. If they are in the pot they most likely have a premium hand they will push pre flop TT+ AQ+ from a late position they may reduce these requirement, on the flop they will push with TPTK TPGK. Avoid playing drawing hands with them in the pot, you will have to fold against their push if you don’t hit the flop big, you have no implied odds. Wait for you own premium hand to execute a trap. It does help if short stack is on your right so you know his play before acting. When they are to act after you be cautious about playing drawing hands. Shit you now know what cars they have go get em.
