Small stakes - Quality fold or inexperience?

Postby jimmer » Sat Apr 17, 2010 10:15 am GMT

This hand caught my eye. I appricate we are working on a lot of variables, but was wondering if we think pfiffa is a quality player for folding this hand after raising and re-raising, or a stupid one for not calling on the end with good pot odds.

(I'm assuming he had something like QQ, JJ or AQ, but thats not the point of my discussion.)

A quality player who showed good disipline or a poor one who showed inexperience?

What I mean is, he most likely re-raised renpin with nothing and then when facing another raise let it go correctly. He may have had JJ for all we know but I highly doubt it at these stakes and when he four bets I think his range is very polarised.

yeah you don't really this this happening a lot but you do see it enough.

because BTN is such a known steal pos 3betting from the blinds light has become a really standard play.

so then for a smart oponent (not saying this V is) you can start to develope a light 4betting range. but the thing is it has to be balanced by bluffs so that it makes it +EV to do so.

ex.. 22 OTB against a V who has a 3bet from bb of 10%

you make standard steal of 4bb they 3bet to 12bb..

now you can just fold but you can't be waiting for QQ+/ AQ+ to 3bet so you make it 27bb to go then V 5bets to 50bb. easy fold...

wouldn't really expect light 4betting at 10NL but meh..

I agree with HalfSugar, funny though pfiffa used a raise twice but then fold is somewhat obscure. Maybe pfiffa was a buit lost that when folding before a hand reaches the climax can also obtain a huge benefit, namely the time and a chance to study the playing styles of your opponents. As the result, this would be the perfect time to watch carefully for clues which will help you win future hands.
