SNG means sit and go,
Basically it's a 10 person tournament.
They have various levels. 5/1, 10/1, 20/2, 30/3 and up. 5/1 is you pay 5 dollars for the pot and a 1 dollar fee (rake) winner takes 25, second gets 15, and third gets 10. The same pay out schedule is for the rest of the SNG's just higher multiples.

A SnG is a 'Sit N Go' which means it is a single table tournament. The number of players is either 2 (a heads-up SnG), 5, 6, 8 or 10 generally. As a rule, the buy-in is a dollar amount plus 10% of that which goes to the house. The whole dollar amount goes in the prize pool and the top 3 generally share this 50%/30%/20% for 1st/2nd/3rd.
For example, like mentioned above a $10+1 SnG with say 10 players has a prize pool of $100 (while the house gets $10). 1st will get $50, 2nd $30 and 3rd $20 but 4th - 10th will get nothing.
SnG are a great way to get used to tournament play and learn to play a different style as the number of players at your table dwindles. You can learn a lot from playing SnG games and in my experience, are a good regular way to make a bit of money. The buy-in dictates the pay out so if you don't like risk, the 6 or 10 person $5 SnG offered at all poker rooms are a nice way to learn without spending too much.

I would definitely recommend playing SnG's. They are all that I play online and think they are good for any level player. I like the fact that you pay a certain amount up front and then get a certain amount of chips. If you run up against a better hand when you had what you thought was the best, you only lose your $6, $10, or whatever you're playing for and not big money.

I play one or two SnG's a night during the week, unless I have a live game, and a few more throughout the weekend. As far as how much it improves my game, of course it doesn't help as far as reading live players but you see so many hands that it can't hurt your game if you are playing with the right players.

The other day i woke up, took the dog out, made some tea, sat down at my pc and played poker (with occasional breaks, bathroom, food, more dog walking etc) for 14 hours or so, went to bed, slept 8 hours woke up, played poker for another 6 hours
This is a rarity for me tho, but damn, I ENJOYED IT!!

See webmaster i know my personality that when i get into something i enjoy i will keep going.....and spend enough time online as it is.....just my live games are all rebuy tournements hence the amount of real poker getting played is small as its a cheap game
hence the online tournaments are interesting to me.....but i have also head that online in the cheap games its hard to shake off players with their draws on the turn the will call even agains thing where te board has paired....(i dont think i will play the expensive games till i get used to it ....that is if i play online)
i take it if you play tight and play position carefully per normal games i would be fine online
thanks for comments so far
