Split Pot Question
I'm always confused on this one...
P1: 3, 8
P2: A, Q
Board: 6, 7, K, 7, 9
Is this split pot or does P2 win with A high?

okay. so since you use the 5 best cards, P2 would win with pair 7, A high? For some reason I thought that if the only hand was made on the board that it was automatically a split pot, but now I'm assuming that this is only true if that hand is 5 cards??

Yes, the hand only splits if the board contains the best five cards or the players hold one or both cards which make the best 5. Examples:
Board - AKQJT
P1 - 23
P2 - 57
The ace high straight on the board is the best hand and none of the players cards make a difference.
Board - 3467K
P1 - A5
P2 - 95
Both players use the 5 in their hand to make a 7 high straight. The fact that P1 has an Ace and P2 has a 9 (and board shows a K) are completely irrelevant as you only use 5 cards of the 7 at your disposal.
