SR or SPR

Postby woodendart » Tue Jan 25, 2005 2:58 am GMT

A reason some of us are very poor poker players stems from the fact that we have very weak R’s. The reason we have weak R’s is we have weak P’s. This is because we have not taken the time for a good P.

One of the many things that sets mankind apart from most animals is that we are capable of S P R were as animals are only capable of S R. Let me give you an example. You push back on your chair, to get up after reading this article, and in doing so your chair’s wheel goes over your girlfriends cats tail and her cat instantly start crying like a baby. The wheel going over the tail is the S (stimulant) ,the cry is the R (response). A few days later you are walking along the street and your girlfriend up and slugs you. “What was that for?â€Â

POT?

Postby woodendart » Thu Jan 27, 2005 4:12 am GMT

I think the it is easy to understand but it does require you to remember for five minutes that R = response P = pause S = stimulant. If you short term memory is more I guess it could be a little bit of blue cloud to read.

But you define it in the middle of a paragraph after you have already been saying those letters. Why not just type them out anyways!? It sounds like you are just trying to seem intellectual by obfuscating it, but maybe you are quoting someone else so it isn't your fault.

EDIT: Why is the word "pause" used when "P" should mean "plan"?

EDIT2: That whole thing was to choose the correct response to things. However, the author decided to write a whole essay about that instead of just saying it in one sentence. And for the last paragraph, why didn't he just say that you should focus on your reactions to things instead of what you are reacting to in order to improve those reactions? It took me like a minute to figure out that paragraph.

I liked the post, and if you did write that, nice job.

I do not however like the attempt to get me to another site, and in turn have to question your motive for posting it.

I wrote it to get feedback

Postby woodendart » Sat Feb 05, 2005 6:37 pm GMT

Some day I would like to teach business courses that use poker as a teaching tool. I did not feel I was trying to get you to go to another site. I just have my signature added, like every good author does. Yes, I did write it myself. Thanks for the feedback

There exists many animals that can quite possibly plan and pause their reaction to a stimulus. Furthermore, the simplistic behavioristic stimulant/response views on how humans think and act were mostly rejected back in the 70s, and now the accepted ideas are more modern theories of cognition/thinking and learning, as these old ones can not account for or properly predict many acts.

I agree with you that a stimulant/response model does not work. That is where the pause comes in and it is in pause that the cognition/ thinking takes place. I was trying to encourage player to think and plan ahead to be better prepared for different things that take place at the poker table.
