Stud Hi/Lo

Postby MrDarling » Wed Oct 25, 2006 3:25 am GMT

Just finished reading Sklansky addition to Super System on Stud Hi / Lo.
what an excellent read. I actually finally understood why Diamond keeps saying is it so important to try to scoop and not play one way hands.

How ever, it seems like Sklansky is talking about a game where there is always a low hand. Where I play, low only qualify for 8 and lower.

I can't wait experiment with the game but how do I adjust Sklansky system to a 8 hi/lo game?

Thanks

danny

In the time SS1 was written, Stud High-Low was played purely high-low with no qualifier. In the modern High-Low with a qualifier, it means that strong one-way high hands (ie Aces or trips) gain significant value when compared to strict Stud High-Low with no qualifier. Also, there is a greater emphasis on having the BEST low and dumping hands early when they fail to improve (since you can't play catch up as easily when there's a qualifier).

There is a great section on 8-or-Better in Super System 2 as well.
