Team Poker

Postby st3f0 » Mon Mar 29, 2010 5:41 pm GMT

Every week 12 of us get together and we all play poker. We have always wanted to try team poker and split up into 6 teams of 2. The only problem is that we have no clue how it works or how it would pay out so if someone could be of any help i would greatly appreciate it

Is there a right or wrong answer? Surely you can make up any rules and simply start playing.

I once did this at my home game. By 1am everyone was about even and a few players left. So with the ones that were left we had a team game. Everything stays the same as usual except you can borrow money of your partner if you have a good hand. Your partner DOESN'T get to see the your cards though and you are not allowed to communicate what hand you have, so the whole hand becomes a bluff/double bluff type-thing.

It got quite fun when one guy says to his partner "lend me some more money, cause i've got a good hand" and the other replies "so have I, how good is yours?" They then spend the next 5 minutes trying to work out who has the best hand without actually being able to communicate what cards they have. The whole time everyone else is sat around trying to work out the hand as well. Of course, everyone ends up folding and neither of them win much.

I also thought about having a rule where if your partner decides to throw his hand away, you have a chance to "purchase" one of his cards for 3x the price of the big blind. The money goes into the centre pot and the game continues.

I guess there is 101 different variations. Come up with some rules and give it ago.

Welcome to the forum btw
