Tell me something I already know

Postby HalfSugar » Tue Oct 18, 2011 7:46 pm GMT

I'm playing an online satellite last night to a live tourney and I'm HU. First gets the seat, second some token $$$ amount. Poker client is Black Belt Poker which is on the iPoker network.

H: 10,900
V: 14,600

Blinds 400/800. V basically doesn't get out of line.

[8d] [4d] in the SB. I raise to 1,600. V calls.

Flop [7h] [Ts] [5d]. V checks, I bet 1,600, V calls.

Turn [Qd]. Check, check.

River [6s]. V shoves.

The time clock on iPoker, at least in this tourney, was 15 seconds. I spent the first 5 seconds comprehending that he'd shoved for 11,200 into the 6,400 pot then the next 5 seconds trying to work out what he had and determining that 89 was pretty much all it could be. That left 5 seconds to make the decision.

Fold right?! F*cking time clock

Meh I dunno. You are playing HU and there is only one possible hand that beats you and that's 98 and you are holding one of the 8's.

Your hand is also pretty well disguised and it's HU and you have invested 1/3 of your stack. I prolly call, unless the Seat I was playing for was worth more than my life. Kinda depends on the feel I have got from playing history. It's not enough to just say he doesn't get out of line.

Yah, I called. He showed me 89.

I think what I was quite annoyed about was having to make the snap decision before having a chance to weigh everything up and also work out my chip deficit if I made the fold. With a minute to think, I still may have called but I am fairly sure I would have folded and lived to fight on as he was not a particularly special player and really, who donks all-in there without 89? Two pair is so unlikely to shove, only 84 or 89 shove in which case my equity is cack.

The seat was for the BBP event at DTD in Nov. You going? I'm going anyway, I figured I'd just try and get in cheap.

When looking at these it would be good to know the buyin of the sat and what 1st is worth in $$.

If it was me I might donk shove any set or two pair and maybe a bluff very rarely seeing as you have played it so very standardly nitty.

Nah I won't be going.

Next time I will splash around wildly with my 13BBs and a gutshot so that I can rid myself of this pesky nit tag. Where is the yawn smiley?
