the amount of money to use
hello,
i have just started to learn poker and there is still a question which i hope somebody here can help me to answer...
we play a 10 / 20 limit table.
my question:
does a player who wants to bet/raise/reraise/cap during a betting interval always have to play the exact amount of the given limits or can he chose an amount anything between up to the limits?
for examle:
the flop comes and player1 now wants to bet. can he bet 8 or does he have to bet 10 ?
then the turn comes and player1 wants to bet. can he bet 17 or does he have to bet 20 ?
thank you very much for any answers in advance.

In your example, the bets preflop and on the flop must be 10 and the bets on the turn and river must be 20.
The game you're describing is closer to a "spread limit" game where bets could range from a specified minimum to a specified maximum, for example $1-$5 Stud.

I think that's more common in the smaller games. What we have here in Colorado, for example, is $2-$5 spread. Low-limit wagering, max bet size. Sigh.
I think the Monte Carlo in Vegas had a $1-$3 spread game. Dave's talked about some crazy thing in Minnesota--$2-60 I think he said.
But my experience has been most limit poker is fixed limit--$X before and after the flop, $2X turn and river, with blinds of $.5X and X.
