The Best Chips- Period

Postby Jmcmoney » Sun May 07, 2006 5:01 am GMT

I'm about to buy a set of about 600-700 chips and can't decide on what kind to get. Money isn't an issue and I'm just curious to hear everyone's opinion. What are the best chips I can possibly buy?

I've looked into ASMs, Paulson's, and other "higher end" chips but can't find an opinion that doesn't revolve around how much chip you're getting for your money. What's the best product out there regardless of how much they cost?

Get a custom set of ASMs. Go to www.chiptalk.net. That will give you more info than you could need.

Get samples of all the different kinds. If money isn't an issue, get a couple sets of each sample so you can get a real feel for them. ASM, Paulson and Chipco are probably going to be the best three. Personally I'd probably go Paulson, Chipco, ASM, but I've never seen the home Paulsons...only the casino ones.

I own a set of home Paulsons (the Pharaohs) and a set of Chipcos. I like the looks of the Chipcos better simply because you can put better graphics and cover the whole chip with it. The Paulsons, though, rule in my book. The sound, the stackability, the look, everything.

Since price isn't an issue, you should look into some Bud Jones chips. Those are probably hands down the best chips you can buy, but are very expensive. Like the others said, get some samples and see what you like.

I have to agree with MS on all counts. Casino Paulson's are the best chips but you won't be able to just buy them off the shelf, unless you go to a casino and buy them at face value. (You did say money is no object) :D

The exception would be the Dunes chips available in quantity from Spinettis but be forwarned they are pricey. Your other option would be E-bay but you'll have to be lucky and they'll still be pricey.

Chipco and ASM's are both good chips and customizable for the personal touch.

But like he said get samples and see what you like.

Good luck

leaving money out of the equation:
Dunes retired casino chips, uncirculated.

for some reasonable amount:
custom TRkings

at that same price in ceramic:
custom chipcos through homepokerchips.com

at .95:
home paulsons (pharaohs or other)

cheaper than that: different conversation altogether (what's the best bargain chips? answer: vinyl-labeled faux clays).

I've been thinking over my 'ideal set of chips' for a couple of years now. I started with cheap diamonds and gave them to my brother for his birthday a couple of years ago. I replaced those with Dice chips which I've actually liked quite a bit. But for my next set I think I'm going to go with Chipcos. I like the ASMs now that I've had a chance to play with them, but design-wise I think chipcos might be the only ones I'd be satisfied to pay that much money for.

The best chips are the ones the suit your needs. I have a set of dice and they work very well for my needs. The beat the hell out of those plastic Hoyle set I used for years..... If your wanting a not so sufisticated chip then I just like the dollars and change chips...CASH...  .

Anyone remember when they were young and used to use just about anything for poker chips?... . Hell half you guys probably aren't old enough to remember Ronald Reagan as president...

We'd go to the grocery store and buy like $50 in quarter rolls, then play poker all weekend. :D

I bought a set of TR Kings customized with my artwork... I think I have one photo out there, but can post more if you'd like... One of the best purchases I have made, they really stepped up my home game....

These look really nice from the photo you have. I'd sure like to see close ups of the chips and art work. It has been a long time since anyone has posted some custom chip designs. Thanks for sharing this and congratulations on the set.

BTW: Do you find that you use all of the colors regularly? My preference is to have a LOT of the low value chips, about 1/4 of the next step up and a very few to really color up the big winner. But I play low stakes cash games with 6-9 players.

[edit]Hoefler's photos no longer exist on the link as of 19 June 06.[/edit]
