the poker pit

Postby thepokerpit » Sat May 20, 2006 6:55 pm GMT

Hello Everyone

For all you guys and gals looking for a good game in downtown TO, the poker pit is the place. We're located near Dundas west station, or just north of the Gardiner on Roncesvalles. We have games every Friday and Saturday and the game is 1-2 No Limit. We have a bunch of guys who are looking for a limit game, so we may be adding a limit game if enough people show interest. We have 1 table only so it’s one of the smaller clubs. We have a weekly high hand jackpot and a non smoking poker room. Internet is available for players to surf or play online while waiting.

Game usually starts around 9 pm, but we have been playing SNG's for the guys who show up early. If you have questions or need the exact address, email me at thepokerpit@email.com or phone 416 569 4735.

Just thought I'd share an the high hand from Sturday night. We have a weekly high hand jackpot at the poker pit. Late into Saturday night the best hand was, queens over tens. Not a very big hand, but it looked like it might just hold up. Anyways, kings over nines was flopped to take lead. Then a flop of A66 caused alot of action. It was 3 handed, AK, AJ and A6 os. The turn was a 6 which made quads and qualified for the new high. 3 hands later.. a flop of 997 got alot of chips in the middle. The turn was a 9 and the river was a Q. The 3 hands were K9 S, 7Q os and A7s. Quad 9's took the high hand pot this week.

Hi,

I just played at The Poker Pit, this weekend passed and I had a good time. I was gonna go to port perry but its a good hour drive and I can't get to there by subway. This location was great for me. Another bonus was the high hand and only 5% rake instead of 10%. I like NL but I perfer to play limit. I would play 2/4 , 3/6 or 5/10 on Friday. Lots of food and drinks. I like their poker table too. A lot better then Port Perry and Rama.
I like that I can play smoke free. Get to bring my A game without smoke in my eyes :) You can smoke in the other room and play or surf on the computer there too. I came 2nd in the 20 tournament. Chip leader had 4-5 x times me.. I was happy to come 2nd. I'll do better next weekend.

And no i didn't fold my AA lol

This weeks high hand

Postby thepokerpit » Mon May 29, 2006 11:34 pm GMT

Thanks for the support Acesfold. You play a good game.

I’m going to share another high hand from Saturday night. Going into Saturday night the high hand was Jacks over Aces. Early Saturday night, queens over 10’s hit on the river on Q106 3 Q board. It was heads up with Q10 vs Q3. Then something very funny happened. There was a preflop flop raise with AJ s vs 99. The flop comes 993. 99 checks and AJ bets. 99 calls. Turn is a brick and 99 bets out and AJ folds. Quad 9’s doesn’t qualify cause it’s not a called hand. Everyone was shocked from the bet but got a good laugh, and the guy holding quads said he had a brain fart and was expecting a call from the preflop raiser. Then we had another hand where a guy was kicking himself for betting. It’s a family pot and it’s checked to a late position player who bets an AQ3 flop. Everyone folds and he takes down a small pot and shows AQ and asks to see the turn and river. The turn was insignificant but the river was an Ace. That hand also could have knocked off the measly queens over 10’s but it didn’t. Queen’s over 10’s takes down this week’s high hand.

this weeks high hand

Postby thepokerpit » Wed Jun 07, 2006 11:20 am GMT

This weeks high hand was quad Aces. It’s always a bonus when your AK wins a pot and the high hand jack pot. The flop AA9 and the turn was the Ace and the river was a 4. The high hand from Friday night was quad 4’s but unfortunately it couldn’t hold up.

Poker Pit news and Weekly Tourney

Postby thepokerpit » Wed Jun 07, 2006 11:21 am GMT

With the summer here and the expected hot weather, we at the poker pit have installed a new A/C in our poker room. The ceiling fan wasn’t doing anything other than circulating hot air around. The added A/C at 8000 BTU’s was greatly appreciated by dealers and players. Also, our fridge is always stocked with cold beverages to also help you stay cool.

Since our $40 1 table re-buy tourney went so well on Saturday, we’ll be running it every Saturday. The buy in gets you 1000 in chips, 1 rebuy within the 1st hour and an add on after the 1st hour. Each buyin gets you another 1000 in chips. Top 3 get paid and the blind structure is as follows:

Level Small Blind Big Blind
1 10 20
2 15 30
3 20 40
4 25 50
5 50 100
6 75 150
7 100 200
8 150 300
9 200 400
10 300 600
11 400 800
12 500 1000
13 600 1200
14 800 1600
15 1000 2000 CAPPED

The tourney starts around 7:30 on Saturday and it’s a great way to warm up to the 1-2 NL game that runs till early morning. Even with the 20 minute blinds, the tourney ends within 4 hours which is prefect. A lot has to be said about our dealers.

You’ll have to reserve a seat for the tourney because our regulars like to play, but it would be nice to see some new faces. You can contact me at thepokerpit@email.com with questions or to reserve. That’s all the news from the poker pit this week.

Poker Pit Update

Postby thepokerpit » Tue Jun 27, 2006 11:45 pm GMT

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve posted a high hand. I’ll tell you about the high from 2 week ends ago first. Early position limped and the cutoff raises to 15. The flop comes 2410 all clubs. Check bet call. Turn is a 5 of clubs. Check bet call again. River is a 5 of hearts. EP bets 35 and the preflop raiser just calls. EP has 63 clubs and cutoff has AK with the K of clubs. By the end of the night, the guy holding the AK goes on tilt and loses all of his chips to the guy who called his preflop raise with 63 suited.

I’ll even share the hand that busted him. Same player early position limps and it gets raised again by the same AK player. The flop comes 8Q2. I can’t remember the bet but there was a bet on the flop. Turn card 8. EP checks, AK cutoff bets 25. EP checkraises to 75 and AK player goes allin for 200 plus dollars. EP calls and flips over 85 os.
Preflop AK raiser flips over AK os and is drawing dead and is busted out.

(Just a side note, If you’re reading this Aaron, Sorry, don’t mean to rub it in.. just thought it would make for a good read.)

Moving on to this past week’s high hand. Ummm,, there wasn’t one. Not that we didn’t have a game but no one qualified for the high which was a first. It was a great game that started at 11:30 on Saturday night and ran till 9:30 am Sunday morning. Ace’s full is a qualifying hand but no one made higher than jacks full.

Since no one hit the high hand this week, I thought it would only be fair to double the pot for this Saturday.

I’m hoping this week’s game will start a bit earlier than 11:30, so if you’re up a for game and want to show up around 8ish, give me a shout. The contact info is in the previous post.

Till then

limit fridays

Postby thepokerpit » Wed Jul 05, 2006 10:27 pm GMT

We made a little change at the poker pit for this weekend. WE're going to try 5'10 limit. We have 6 guys already but its always good to fill up a few more chairs.

The same 1'2 NL game will run on Saturday though. The game the last 2 Saturdays have started late cause of the nice weather and the long weekend. It might just rain this Saturday and we'll be able to start early.

The high hand from this Saturday was a weak full house Aces over 3's. The board was AA2 2 3. Congrats to Jordan cause I know you'll read this.

That's about it for now.

poker pit news

Postby thepokerpit » Mon Sep 11, 2006 11:29 pm GMT

It's been a long time since I've posted because of the great games at the CNE. The CNE is finished for another year which means we're up and running again at the Pit. The schedule hasn't changed. We're still playing 5'10 limit on Fridays and 1'2 NL on Saturdays. I threw a party at the Pit this last Saturday for the guys I met at the CNE and it turned out to be a great night of poker.

Well, not for the guy who got busted out of a tourney with AA's vs Q10 os and then twice in the cash game to 77's and 69 suited. AA's and KK's got dealt twice in the same hand during the tourney with AA's winning both. A few hands later, AA's got busted on a runner runner diamond, with the winning hand being Q10 os.

In the 3rd hand of the cash game, AA's, JJ's and 69 suited see a flop. 583 flops and theres a bet and a smooth call. 7 on the turn and all the chips go in the middle. AA's go down again.
AA's were doing horribel all night. AA's vs Q9 suited. Flop 742.. 2 diamonds. Aces moves all in with a short stack, gets called and loses right away on a diamond turn. And finally, EP limps 77's, SB raises and BB calls. flop comes 794. SB bets, BB raises , limper is allin.. call. call. SB has AA's, BB has KK's and the limper has 77's.

I thought stuff like that only happens online.

Anyways, it was a great party and it continues this Friday. If anyone is interested in a good poker party, email me at thepokerpit@mail.com or phone 416 569 4735.

till then

3'6 kill

Postby thepokerpit » Mon Sep 25, 2006 6:58 pm GMT

I’m just going to write a little bit about this past weekend at the pit. We tried something new on Friday night and played a 3’6 limit game with a kill switch instead of 5’10 limit. It turned out to be good fun and good action. The high hand for the night was Aces full of tens.

Saturday night was the usual 1’2 no limit game. Everyone was playing to beat the high hand cause it was Henry who had it, and he had won the last to jackpots with quad Aces. K7 made quads on a 778 7 K board but it would not hold up. Near the end of the night pocket 88’s hit a set on the flop and rivered the quads to take this week’s high hand. Congrats to Yong.

I’ve attached a pic of our dealer from this past weekend. I had to shrink it to attach it to this post.. hope it works.

Till then
