I start bitching at some guy for running down my KK w/ bottom pair. He rivers 2 pair w/ 85. My KK was an overpair and he was UTG.

So anyway-after my remarks, he commented that he was 10:1 to make the turn call.

The final pot was $100 (5/10 limit) and he check raised the river after hitting. His turn call $10 call won him $100.


Does anyone else find issue with this?

Well yeah, if the final pot was $100, then he was at best 5:1 on the turn (assuming there was minimal action besides the two of you).

100 final pot - 40 from river action - 10 from his turn call = $50.

If he just had one pair and assumed he was beat (assuming no straights or flushes on the board) he was exactly 9:1 against. His turn call was not justified.

Exactly, he was counting his bets as profit.


I had some fun with him after that. Only because he was calling me an idiot for not understanding pot odds.

I can understand your wanting to berate him, Dave, but all you're doing is helping an inferior player who doesn't understand how to calculate odds. You also may be helping other players at the table who are also morons. In this case, you'd have been better off just to say "Oh, you're right. My mistake." and let him keep playing that way. The payoff would be better for you in the long run.

IMO, I think berating players helps me.

In this world of faceless online drones who play multitables, I immediately get the attention of some at the table. As long as you come of authoritative and not stupid, you will get some to pay attention to your play.

It suites my style to win the hands that I play, not to get into 8 way lotto pots. So if I come in, I want people to notice.

Bigger games, heck no. Online low-mid limit crap, definately. If it helps me win chips, I will let people think I am an ass, a moron, Geno, a pro, a complete novice, whatever.

You know, I never thought of it that way. Most of the time, I want my opponents to think I'm some dumb chick who saw poker on tv and decided to try it. It usually takes 3-4 big hands before they actually recognize that I have a clue.
