This is a good point. Kinda like how Catholics think it's funny to criticize Mormonism and Scientology but think they're insulated from criticism themselves.

It depends….
The list would depend on how I’m feeling at the time.
There are movies I’d like to watch with mates and some beers. There are movies that cheer me up when I’m feeling depressed. There are movies that I respect from a pure quality of script, acting and cinematography point of view.
Even if you narrowed it down to genre I think it would be tough.

Oh gosh - considering the ridiculous quantity of movies I've seen - most being pure shit - it's going to be tough to make a real list, but I'll try.
Where the Buffalo Roam
Taxi Driver
Annie Hall
Cool Hand Luke
Network
The Great Escape
The Royal Tenenbaums (or Life Aquatic, or Rushmore, or even Bottle Rocket)
Best Adaptations:
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Fight Club
Trainspotting

It'd be interesting to make a list of Top 20 movies from the past 20 years. People's bad-taste would truly shine.
