Tournament Poker for Advanced Players

Postby zinn0 » Thu May 04, 2006 12:19 am GMT

Anyone read this one? It's by Sklansky. I'm thinking about getting it with my Fpp's on Stars. Is it geared towards NL or limit?

I would not recommend it. There are better books on the market dealing with the subject. The book is not geared specifically toward any one game, but it does discuss some overall tournament strategies--ie adjusting to payout structure, dealing with the bubble, playing big vs. small stacks, and making deals. Personally, I think this book became obsolete with the advent of HoH.

I'm sorry I can't help, but what's the deal with getting free stuff with PokerStars? I've played on a lot of sites but never been there. I like free stuff though.

You can accumulate FPP's (frequent player points) which you can then cash in for swag, such as Clothing, Books, Chips, Electronics...all kinds of crazy stuff.

Thanks for the quick response. Is it only worth it if you play big money or can I get enough points on the $.10/.25 and $.25/.50 tables?

I don't play big money games and I've got all kinds of cool PS swag.

Use your FPP's to enter the WSOP freerolls... that's what I'm doing.

Yeah, I need to use the ton I've racked up at Paradise but every time I check out the tourneys that I can use my points on, there are like 1,700 people already in and I just decide that I can't put in all the time. Not sure if that is standard or not, since I've never played a single freeroll.

And thanks again Zinn. Didn't mean to take your thread off topic.

Personally I found it pretty intresting and informative. Many have told me however that HoH is better. My copy of it is arriving this weekend so I get to read up pretty soon.
