TPTK facing a checkraise

Postby str1130 » Sat Nov 22, 2008 10:38 pm GMT

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00+$0.20 Tournament, 50/100 Blinds (8 handed)

CO (t2560)
Button (t9390)
SB (t11220)
BB (t3235)
UTG (t2255)
Hero (UTG+1) (t9895)
MP1 (t4595)
MP2 (t3990)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with Ad, Qs
1 fold, Hero raises to t300, 2 folds, MP2 calls t300, 2 folds, SB calls t250, BB calls t200

Flop: (t1200) 7s, Qh, 5d (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets t900, 1 fold, SB raises to t10920 (All-In), 1 fold, Hero?

this was a gross spot for me.. i'm usually calling here, but the huge checkraise all-in was kinda scary coming from the biggest stack at the table. 55 and 77 are definitely in his calling range.. what do you guys think?

I think it's a pretty clear fold without reads.

2 pair makes the most sense or a draw, although board is not real drawy. I'd be surprised if it's a set, it's such an overbet on a pretty safe board he's losing a ton of value.

For me this is strictly read dependant. I cant see how he is really bluffing here but who knows.

1)Is AQo the worst hand u raise with from UTG+1?

2)Fold, probably some sort of blind special, two pair, could be a flopped set. TPTK is probably in the top 5 of hands players bust with.

Edit: Your line says to him you have TPTK, AK, or a big pair, none of which scares him.

Yeah, its all about read, but in this low level against unknown I'll probably error on calling then folding. This is as dry a flop as it get, there is no reason for him to shove a set. He can easily have a worse Q, some weird draw or even an under pair.
The only hand that does make some sense that beat us is weird two pairs. Q5, Q7, 57 etc...

This come down to how he plays. Does he play many pots and try to win a lot of them?
Folding here is never really wrong if he doesn't do it often. You are deep enough and your cbet is just a small % of your stack..

- nope, as far as other unpaired hands go, i'll open with AJs and KQ suited most of the time, AJo/KQo/A10s sometimes.

2)Your line says to him you have TPTK, AK, or a big pair, none of which scares him.

- yeah, that was my exact thinking as i clicked TIME, lol. the 3/4 pot bet was a pretty deliberate bet size by me, telling the 3 other players that i was serious about my hand. I don't make that kind of a c-bet with AK in that spot into a 4-way pot, FWIW.

Villain was an unknown to me, i just got moved to the table i believe. i wasn't too scared of a set, although it was definitely possible.
"The only hand that does make some sense that beat us is weird two pairs. Q5, Q7, 57 etc..."
-i put him on hands along those lines, especially those of the soooted variety. :P

I figured if i called, i would be good around 35% of the time, and that pot odds weren't sufficient, & as i mentioned i had no reads in the hand. thinking on the second level, it seemed like he wanted me to stack off with top pair against his hand which was worse preflop but got the chance to catch up.
