triple draw 2-7 question

Postby kainARGH » Wed Apr 26, 2006 9:44 pm GMT

I hold J high , say 2358j , and I'm in posistion. Villan draws 2 - this is his final draw.

stay pat or draw 1 ?

He drew TWO on the final draw?

Since he'll essentially have to hit perfect on the river, I would just stand pat here and bet when he almost certainly misses. Depending what cards have been folded, you will probably have the best hand even if he does hit the hand reasonably well. Even with 2-3-4, the king of 3 card draws, you are a significant favorite.

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER draw 4 unless you checked out of the big blind. I cannot tell you what a no-no this is. I will only draw 3 at most if I'm on the button, there has been no raise, and I have exactly 2-3, 2-4, 2-5, or 2-7. I'm sorry, but it's hard for me to feel bad when you started the hand so badly.

And Supa, what's your beef with Triple Draw? It's a good game if you have the theory down.

I'll admit it was dumb , but I could sense it was one of those hands where nobody would raise pre = likely everyone is drawing 3 or 4. So I thought what the hell , ill draw 4 with posistion and see what happens. Now admitedly , I have no right to bitch .... and only did so because I happened to draw to a fantastic hand and was absolutly baffled by the draw 3 then stand pat with 2 draws remaining.

874 lost to someone who drew 3 and stood pat with 2 draws left. I thought I had that one for sure.

*edit diamond* , you ever have those triple draw sessions where it seems nobody misses a draw ? Was haveing one of those today , sooooo many times , nobody would miss. It was strange. 4 times I lost standing pat with j high VS someone drawing 1 on the final draw. I'm not 100% sure , but I believe J high is favored VS someone drawing 1. All in all , I went down 16 BB , to up 4 BB , back down to down 16 BB. I wanted to stay longer but felt myself tilting after someone drew to a 2 outer on me - I was 9 high and stood pat with other person drawing 1 - he needed an 8 or 7 , caught an 8 :\

Triple Draw is pretty high in variance. But, like most low-limit games, it can pretty much be beat on quality hand selection alone. Better decisions before the second draw will make play much easier.

Diamond is right on this. You have to have good starting hand selections in Triple Draw just as you do in any variation of poker. That 2KKQT hand was ridiculous, not even in the ballpark.

Pick up Super System 2. Negreanu has a great piece on TD. If nothing else, at least refer to it for the kinds of starting hands you need. If you have read it, then I would think you're badly in need of a refresher course.
