Harrah's have come out and said (apparently on espn's poker podcast) that they will not be accepting 3rd party entries to wsop 2007.

Essentially this means that you won't be able to qualify to wsop 2007 through any non-Harrah's satellite.

Now, this will include B&M casino's, but in these you will get the $10k and it will be up to you to register anyway. The big hit is going to be (again) to the online sites. You will not be able to qualify for wsop 2007 thru stars or full tilt or party or wherever! Even if you're a non-USA resident!

Now it is perfectly possible that sites will run "players choice" satellites, where the prizepool is spread out in $12K (or w/e) packages to the top finishers and then it will be up to the players themselves to register, but why should they bother? If they aren't 'sending' players to wsop they won't be able to force them to wear branded hats/shirts etc. So what would be in it for them?

Even if they did this and I won a $12k package in february... what's the chances I'd still have that $12k by the time I register? (slim! )

Also, some sites (full tilt) have come out and said they will not be 'sending' players to tourneys held in the US at all! so buh bye WPT sats too!

I knew that this would be the next issue... I would definitely vote for the under on this one as well. I have a post on this in the Non-holdem section... I think one or two people said the number of entries would increase from this past year.

First let me say...Geno I couldn't agree more buddy. Hang the SOB.

Second, I think this is a major mistake by Harrahs. They want thousands of entrants into the WSOP. They need thousands of entrants in the WSOP events. It makes for better pay and the bigger the prize the more people it will attract. I think Harrahs is doing this most likely to try to get more players into Harrah owned casinos. Man wouldn't Binion roll over in his grave if he knew soon it wasn't going to be the WSOP...but soon it will probably be known as HWSOP (Harrahs World Series of Poker). It won't even be a world series any more really. It will be a Harrah only event. Where is the fun in that if you can't say you are the WSOP ME Champion? or that you bested 6,000 other players to become the big dog on the block. Where is the fun if you can't call a friend and say you just pulled a hell of a bluff on Howard Lederer (2005 WSOP ME...Steve Danerman).

Webby I do think soon the online tournaments offering big payouts such as $1,000,000 for 1st place. Of course it won't be sites who do not support American players, as I feel these SOBs will soon dry up and become a poker site of the past. Maybe I am wrong but I wouldn't bank on it.

You will still get plenty of WSOP players...no need to worry about it being the same as a crappy tourney at a local casino....

I don't know where it was when you posted the link, but the line is pretty significantly on the side of the under. The money line at the time I'm posting this is +121 for over 7500, -137 for less than 7500.

For those that don't understand money lines, that's $100 to win $121 if you bet the over, and $137 to win $100 if you bet the under.

personnaly I d take the over, peoeple of this sport always find a way. There are more companies that can sponsor players that are not involved in poker. Also look at some of the effects of this, yes it sucks about online poker, but every city is starting to add poker rooms to their current facilities. Most of the dog tracks are adding them here in florida and not just limit. Alot do 2-3 tourney a night. The great thing is this might insure that these places stay around longer. Online poker is great, but when you actually at the table it can even be better. Just think of this aschange as makeing your poker experince better as a whole.

7500+ people aren't going to buy their way in.

To clarify examples of other companies that can help for example any energy drink on the marked could jump on the band wagon here. Like Monster, rockstar, sobe, and etc. Dont you think companies like that might be willing to pay a fee for you to wear clothing for these companies as spomsors. There are so many other out ther that might be willing to jump on the wagon. In fact this might be a way for some to make money that arent even in the tournys. Maybe make a deal that you could get a number of people to wear the gear at these events, you or someone could be the middle man. Im not say i am for this law, but sometimes thing like this can open other avenues for money making operatunities. First example comes to mind is some the bans on certain supplements, when that came around companies and athletes found ways around this and futher their research and were able to develop new better supplements that surpase what was previously banned. Same goes with this, now more card rooms will get more business and will start to pop up in more places allowing accesability to players that live close to the present markets. This could be a drak age in online poker,. but maybe another way is divert that energy to more local places that are now bringing card rooms to there establishments.

there are ways around this. If people think thats the way, then what will you think will happen. If whoever hosts the tourny thinks the only way to qaulify is to go through them then their sadly mistaken. What do you think will happen if that becomes the way. Poker is a rise and is quickly becoming more popular, by limiting the number of ways people can enter the tourny is gonna do nothing but decrease the income that the tourny brings in. That my friend is what money can do, money talks is the bottom line. Why do you think the gov. is trying to regulate this, because they havent figured how to get their piece of the pie..

Actually, I kinda like that idea. Maybe I'm a bit of a traditionalist but I still think the WSOP should be all about who can play the best poker and not who can donk out the most. If anyone has watched the ESPN coverage of this year's WSOP you know that in most cases it was a tournament in which your survival depended simply on whether or not your opponent was going to donk out on you and it had nothing to do with how well you played the hand. If they want to have a donkfest, go to the home of moronic poker, the internet.

Maybe we could call it the WSODP.

Another benefit to playing online will be to speed the thing up. Help me out here but I think the Sunday Million at Stars has about 5000 players and is finished in 10 hours or so? And until they stop filling the field with internet qualifiers they really, really need to STOP calling the winner of the WSOP "The best player in the world". I don't know who deserves that title but I know it is not Jamie Gold.
