Was I Right or was I Wrong????
I was in a tournament recently - there were 29 runners left from a field of 100+.
Blinds were 800, 1600 witbh a 100 ante - there was 3 mins left on the clock before next level of (1000,2000 with 200 ante).
There were 8 players at the table & I was in the big blind with a stack of 13600 total.The action was folded arounf to the Dealer button, who raised to 4500.
The small blind folded, I looked down at pocket 8's. I pushed the remainder of my stack in, and after some deliberation I was called.
As it turns out, my opponent called with J9 of clubs, & rivered a flush to win the hand.
* Was my all-in push the correct move?
I had been at the table for 45 minutes & had been involved in 2 other hands, where i held pocket QQ's (got called by A8s & lost have stack), pocket 77's (won the hand, against the same player who called by pocket 8's).
I can accept that it was a bad river card, but did I do the right thing.
Should I have called the preflop raise, and then got out after the flop?
Obs/comments please?

I am by no means a tourney player BUT you had 8.5xbb against a very likely steal so I like the push.
honestly V could be raising ATC here and he gets good odds to call so I'd say he calls with a wide range..
stove time...
against a random hand you have 69% equity..
to make call +EV he would need.. 9100 (left to call) / 28000 (pot including sb) so 32.5% equity..
so...
Text results appended to pokerstove.txt
1,892,095,920 games 1.345 secs 1,406,762,765 games/sec
Board:
Dead:
equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 67.395% 66.97% 00.42% 1267132750 8038481.00 { 8c8h }
Hand 1: 32.605% 32.18% 00.42% 608886208 8038481.00 { 22+, A2s+, K2s+, Q2s+, J2s+, T2s+, 92s+, 82s+, 72s+, 62s+, 52s+, 42s+, 32s, A2o+, K2o+, Q2o+, J2o+, T2o+, 93o+, 84o+, 74o+, 64o+, 53o+ }
what this means is that V can call with 90% of hands and be +EV..
the only hands he can't call you with are 83o/73o/63o/43o/92o/82o/72o/62o/52o/42o/32o
so mathematically pushing is bad BUT making V make the mistake of folding any hand is technically +EV for you... I still say push.. can't wait around forever for a hand

Well, you're going to see this hand. It doesn't make sense to put in 4500 and then fold, leaving you with 7000-ish. Thus, the only play is to push 'em in there, and see what happens.

Calm down miao. The guy has just joined the forum and has asked a perfectly reasonable question.miaowmiaowchowface wrote:obviously correct u got unlucky get over it=]
He can't 'get over it' until he knows whether this was the correct move or not, hence joining the forum and asking the question.

This is one of those situations we've all been in a million times where a hand happens that would play the same way 100% of the time and shit unfortunately happened.

Thanks folks. To be honest, I'm not mad about the outcome, I just wanted to know if it was the correct move, given the situation. It was only my second tourney, and am just trying to limit my mistakes.

Your stack was not deep enough to do anything else, that was a good spot to ship and you just got unlucky. Do that again in that spot every time
