Why give your hand away preflop? With only the blinds left to act, it's likely it's going to be HU anyway and you have position. Give him a chance to take a stab at it on the flop.

Plus UTG raises usually mean more than other raises, so you can firm up your ranges a bit.

Late in a tourney you want to win big pots with big hands, survival isn't as important as chips.
