What are the odds of it?

Postby Tadzio » Mon Jun 27, 2005 4:24 pm GMT

Just a mind-game. Join in if you like. Invent possible hands (I stress that they should be possible), and then post them for others to figure the odds of it happening. My contribution:

Player1: A :spade: K :diamond:
Player2: A :club: K :club:
Player3: Q  J

Flop: A  A :diamond: K

Turn: T

River: Inconsequential.

I was just trying to figure out the worst way to lose all your money, and this popped into my head. Players 1 and 2 would not be worrying about any flushes. In fact, they'd be welcoming Player3's all-in on the turn. Just curious: What are the odds of it?

The odds of that hand happening are so astronomical that's it's quite probable that it'll happen to me :P

This is a genuine hand:

Player 1 - A :spade: A :diamond:
Player 2 - 3 :club: 3 :diamond:
Player 3 - 2  4

Flop - A  A :club: 3

Turn - 5

River - 3 :spade:

I'll ask someone in NASA. Only a physicist could be interested in possibilites so remote. :P

These all look like hands that I've been on the losing end of tonight.

Hah, me and my good luck.

Look at this example:

J10 from big blind, and I flop the straight. There's one spade and two clubs on the board, so I bet 2x pot. Idiot to my right calls with nothing. Others fold. Turn, A, Spades. I bet pot, idiot calls. River, rag, spades.

Would you believe that guy chased a runner runner spade flush for half my chipstack?

Believe it. I'm still pissed. I hope he pays me on another draw like that soon, I can't afford too many more of these losses.

How many players at the table? If you tell me that, then I can do it.
