Anyone know why the site was down for a day and a half? (Or was I the only one who couldn't reach it?)

I felt a huge sense of loss when it became unavailable without warning and stayed down.

yeah, me too.

To be honest I just think this adds more weight to my compensation claim. I understand the admin team need to make changes every now and then, but this inconveinience meant I was forced to chat to the wife for long periods. Although I can't speak for her, I think be both felt very uncomfortable.

If the THP legal team decide to settle this one out of court, should I take a four night all-expenses paid trip to Vegas or $1000 cash?

Actually, I can easily understand how a site in the midst of a move or reconfig might stay down longer than expected. That happens all the time. Diamond's explanation is as good as any.

I teach e-commerce system development and just five minutes ago came up from my graduate class in that field. I actually use this site when I talk about electronic communities (as well as when I talk about the value to advertisers of a focused group of viewers who have self-selected themselves into a particular interest group). I sort of indicated this in the OP but as the site stayed down for an hour, then a few hours, then overnight the probability that the problem was permanent (nobody paid the rent) became more likely. I really did feel like something had been taken away from me. I wasn't going to mope about it or start sobbing, but, again, I did feel a sense of loss. I also worried about all of the wonderful content on the site.

Anyway, I've recovered and replaced the two bottles of Bourbon I drank in memorium.
