What is the betting structure for 4-8 Kill?
I played my first game of Texas Holdem live at a card room. It was advertised as “4-8 Kill”. Based on what I had read (below) at “http://www.texasholdem-poker.com/limits” I had assumed I would be allowed to bet between $4 and $8 on each betting round.
“Spread Limit - This is where players can bet within a certain range of amounts. In a $1-$5 game, a player can bet between $1 and $5 during any betting round.” (texasholdem-poker.com)
However, while playing I was informed I needed to bet a minimum of $8 on the turn and river. My question is, how do I determine the correct bet structure from the information posted by the card room (on the overhead display)? I understand the Kill part regarding two winning hands in a row leading to a Kill Pot. Does the Kill also somehow modify what 4-8 means?

If a game is spread limit then you can bet anywhere up to the $8. If it is a normal Limit Hold'em 4/8 game then that means you can only bet $4 or raise $4 preflop and on the flop and on the turn/river bet or raise $8.
You will find that most cardrooms these days just offer the normal 4/8 structure.

In a full-kill game, winning two in a row means it becomes an 8/16 game on the next hand (doubles) and in a half-kill game it become a 6/12 game on the next hand (times 1.5).

I'm assuming it's a limit game, btw. A $4/$8 FLH with a full Kill would be $2/$4 blinds, $4 bets preflop and on the flop, then the bet doubles on the turn and river to $8. If it's actually a no limit game, the blinds would be $4 and $8 normally, no doubling on the turn river, then what HalfSugar said about doubling the whole hand when the kill is on.
They don't usually play spread limit holdem games in a poker room. That's usually kitchen table stuff. In card rooms, holdem is only ever played with a fixed limit or no limit, and rarely, pot limit (tournaments usually). The exception being places with strange gaming laws, like for example San Jose, California, where the maximum single bet is $200, so a $1/$2 NL Holdem game would technically be a $2-$200 spread limit holdem game.
I think if the notation was $4-$8, and it truly was spread limit, that would mean you can bet anywhere from $4 to $8 on any street. Which would be funky. Dealers would hate the hell out of that game.

In a full kill game, the killer will have to post twice of the big blind and when is half kill, the killer will only have to post 150% of the big blind.
