What would be a cool change to NLHE?

Postby supafrey » Fri Jan 30, 2009 2:23 pm GMT

Hiya.

Post any interesting ideas you have to change/evolve the game of NLHE. Warning: crappy ideas will be subject to abuse and scrutiny. Good ideas will bring peons to their knees in your glory!

My contribution: Make the button a forced small blind, in addition to the other two blinds. Everything else remains the same.

Why would you want to force people to play the best possible position at the table? Let the nit and the fish fold all the marginal hands they they SHOULD fold on the BTN.

I though about a version which is called "no luck" poker. As soon as all the money goes in, it get divided equity base. So if TP get it in on the flop vs FD + 2 overs it will be a split pot.
However, this is a bad idea as it will make the game less desirable to the occasional tourists or the gambler. Plus, it might actually force them to play better (if they know they can only win a 3rd of the pot, fish might actually start folding FD to AI bets)

To count, as in Omaha, 2 hole cards and best 3 community cards.

1. Make it pot-limit before the flop and only no-limit after the flop.

OR

2. Add antes.

Did you really just try and critique me for making the game too good for fishies and then try to justify doing anything with poker that involves EQUITY. Are you nuts?

First off, this game would be like.. impossible to play in person. And boring as hell. And completely detrimental to long-term game health.

Way too boring, way too few options. The game is already getting too nitty/easy to read... don't make it any worse.

Changing the seats at the table after a certain period (1 rotation). Probably only online.

Few half baked ideas.

Forced straddle- Who doesn't love a game where everyone straddles?

4 Card Hold 'Em - You either discard 2 off the bat (when it's your turn to act preflop) or remove restrictions Omaha puts on having to use 2. Along the same lines you could deal 3 cards.

BB has option of drawing 2 new cards preflop only if they check/call or raise before drawing. Anything that brings out the gamble in players is good for the game.

that was the only thing i could think of.

I like rules like if you bluff a hand with 27o everyone has to give you one BB (spiced up HSP for sure)

but hey why f*ck with perfection, they dont call it the Cadillac of poker for nothin :)

This is Pineapple. For Crazy Pineapple, you don't have to discard a card until after the flop.

I like the pot limit pre-flop, no limit post flop idea.

I've seen a game played live where it was limit pf, pot-limit flop, no-limit turn/river.

Don't remember where but I do remember that it was crazy action

Hold'em Baseball. 3's and 9's are wild, and if a 4 comes off on the board, everyone still in the hand has to pay a big blind to stay and the dealer peels another one.
