when calling for pot odds do you include your bet?

Postby howzit » Fri Sep 24, 2004 12:17 pm GMT

example:

5 callers not including you.

when you call do you get 6:1 or 5:1?

sorry, i should know this but I got confused two days ago and can't find my Lee Jones book.

I would think not since the basic premise is that you'll make money over the long term if you play the odds right. Using 6:1, you would win 25 for every 25 lost, thus breaking even. Using 5:1, you win 25 for every 20 lost, thus making a profit. I don't know what 'experts' say, but from a mathematical perspective, then seems the logical answer. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

5:1. Pot size on the left. The amount you need to call on the right.

Right, betting 1 to win 5.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but it sounds like you have pot odds confused with implied odds. Pot odds do not factor in the bets and calls on the table, only the pot.

He's not thinking of implied odds. What he was saying is there are 5 bets in the pot, if he calls there will be 6 bets. Does he get 5:1 before he calls or 6:1 after he makes the call? The answer, which has been stated already is 5:1
