When canu start to play weaker hands?

Postby KryptoKnight » Tue Aug 10, 2004 12:32 am GMT

I understand that at 10 people tables u only really play GOOD hands, but me and my friends play only 6 people, should u still follow the guidlines of playing really good hands? if so, then when can we play cards that arent great like 9 10 suited? cuz sometimes u see the pros towards the end starting to play those cards

You can play almost any hand you choose if the rest of the table makes it cheap enough for you to see the flop by not raising opn their good hands.

Something like 9,10 suited in a 6 person game with friends, I would probably call the minimum bet from any position just to see the flop. If I have to call a raise, I'll usually fold. The better your position gets in relation to the button allows you to play weaker hands in hope of flopping a monster. For example, lets say your second to bet and have 67s, and have to call a raise 4 times the BB to see the flop. Would you call? Probably not. Now lets say you have the same hand and are last to act but only have to call one BB. Will you do it? Absolutley!

The point with those weak hands is when you miss the flop, don't hesitate to fold. If you paid to see the flop with 67s and it comes out 10JA, are you going to stay in the hand? If you would, I'd like to invite you over for a game. What if the flop was A45? Now you're drawing at the nut straight, so you'll want to stay in.

i play home games with people that play ANY hand and im serious, they really dont even know how to play... if they have a good hand theyll just call the blind and we continue to the flop. so ur saying if this happens i can just call it and wait for the flop and see what i get?

Absolutely! With weak drawing hands, the more opponents you have in the pot the better. If they are just calling with big cards like AA-JJ, AK-AJ, they are not playing agressive enough and not getting enough money for those hands. Like I said before, if you're sitting there with 76 suited and the flop comes 345(best case scenario), you've flopped the nut straight. Now will your friends really believe you've got the 67 when you raise them? I doubt it, soounds like they'll just call it down to the river. And sometimes they will beat you by calling it all the way down, but if you make them pay for it, you'll make money.

On the other hand, when you get big cards like AA-QQ, AK, AQs, raise! raise! raise! Make it expensive for them to play the crap cards when they get them.

If you haven't already done so, I might suggest a good book by Lee Jones called "Winning Low Limit Texas Hold Em". I can't say enough how much this book improved my low limit play. And by you playing better and being a consistent winner, eventually the others you play with will improve as well.

Looking at Pot Odds chart might look a little confusing at first....but after loggin a few hundred hourst at the poker tables...they start to make alot of sense.

When i first studied pot odds...they didn't appeal to me as a newbie...
but after visiting alot of poker forums; reading lots of poker literature and grindin' out at the poker tables...bein pot odds aware really help making the right decisions at the right time!

there's a lot of probability in when it comes to poker.....an instrinsically being aware of 'em will do wonders on your Poker Reading Ability as well...
