When do I have to show my cards?

Postby davcas » Wed Mar 11, 2009 8:56 am GMT

If I am called and I know I have lost do I have to show my cards for all to see or just to the caller. I know all in I do have to show but many people seem to fold without showing.

it's usually whoever drove the action...

say buddy checks then you bet and he calls...

ideally you're supposed to show your hand because you bet

but if he checks then you check he shows first because there was no driving action and he's first to act...

oh... whenever you show your hands you basically turn it face up... everyone gets to see it..

You can choose not to show even if you last drove the action but the caller has the right to ASK to see your hand before it gets mucked. The dealer is obliged to show it if he does this.

Basically, the betting player can request to see the caller's hand even if the caller has the losing hand, the last player to bet is the one to show the cards first after that all other players can decide if they want to show or muck.

That is not right.

And there you have contradicted yourself.

If you bet and I call, you are obliged to show and if you try to muck, I can request to see your hand. Unless my call sets me all-in, you are not in a position to request to see my hand if I choose to muck.

If the cards hit the muck, they shouldn't be pulled out but I can stop you mucking (or at least request it).

So meaning, show one, show all? But if one poker player doesn't want to show his cards, i was experienced it at home poker games with my friend's friends.

According to Daniel Nugreanu regarding the rule of show one show both:

Poker professional Daniel Negreanu is particularly outspoken about his opposition to this rule. The rule discourages players from showing a single card to confuse their opponents, and most agree that psychology and deception is very much a part of poker. Still, this may be the rule where you play, so you should find out before trying to expose one card.
