who has the 5star dice chips?

Postby Nate PT » Wed Jun 02, 2004 5:39 pm GMT

My buddy wants to order a set of 400 of the dice chips and i was wondering if anyone has these...another friend has a set like these and they are pretty nice (not as nice as chipco obviously). But another friend has a set that looks the same but they are very slippery and when u stack them they spin and they jsut dont stack as well. I wanted to make sure before I told him to order them that they arent the slippery ones. THanks

I haven't gotten chips from 5star yet (but there's an order being mailed to me as we speak). I'll let you know the quality, but I know exactly what you're talking about with your friends chips. I have both the high quality dice chips and, unfortunately, a couple of the terrible low quality ones. I don't even use the low qualities cuz they don't stack right. I'll post another reply when I get mine to let you know.

Dice chips

Postby dannyocean » Wed Jun 02, 2004 11:11 pm GMT

I ordered 1000 from 5star and they are nice chips. They feel a little slick but thats because theres nothing printed on them and they are made of plastic. They are some of the nicest chips you'll find for the price (12 cents each!)

nate,

you mentioned that 2 buddies had those dice chips. where did they buy them - especially the ones that are slippery and don't stack well - since i'm looking at buying those dice ones also. i was looking at 5star, chipsandgames, and pokerchipmart. i want to steer clear if they are bad. thanks.

e-bay essentially is 5 star deal- they occasionally sell their stuff on there. Why is difficult to understand- heck, I don't even know for sure.

The quality of the chips are nice- they'll last a long time if you take care of them. I suggest getting it from either 5 star deal, or simply saving money and ordering a set or two from ebay. I paid 175 for the 1000 chips because I ordered two 500 sets from ebay instead of paying 200 for the 1000 poker chips. Plus I get cases to carry the 500 in :-D.

As for weight- they are the 2nd heaviest I've seen. I saw a 19 g chip once but they're over a buck a chip.
Feel? Slick. Yet very nice. Trust me, I upgraded from cheesy plastic chips to these babies. Signifigant difference.

The dice chips are by no means Casino quality. However thats what I use for our home tourneys and they are WAY better than the cheap bicycle chips and more than good enough for home games.

Well he ordered a set of 500 off ebay and gets to choose the colors and amounts of each color. We usally play with 7-8 people and we do tournaments way more than cash games. He wants to get 5 colors with one color being a pretty large value for the later stages of a tournament. What would the best amounts be?? I was thinking this:
200 White .25
150 Red .50
75 Green $1
50 Black $2
25 Blue $5-10
Thanks for any input!

Yea, I received an order of chips from 5 star last week. Got 1000 of the 11.5g dice (0.12 each). They are somewhat slick but I was expecting that in a composite. Love the weight and the quality of the chips met my expectations.

Sorry it's taken so long to update you on my purchase Nate. 5Star actually had some problem with my order and it didn't get shipped until today. I've heard a few bad things about their customer service lately, however the woman who helped me (Kari) was very polite and refunded my shipping cost because of the ordeal. I'll let you know early next week how the dice chips end up.

Looks like 5star has completely gotten rid of their dice chips? I can't even find them on there.

There's a banner near the top of the page offering a 17 cent sale for selected chips. The dice chips are located there. Hope that helps.

On a side note - did anyone else get them at 12 cents before they bumped them up?

Blinds vs chip values

Postby Pokerface » Tue Jun 15, 2004 12:51 pm GMT

Are there guidelines that help match the blind amounts with the chip values for a bigger tournament (two tables of 7-8 at the start)? If you are doubling the blinds at intervals and/or at eliminations, you could eventually get blinds that would knock the short stacks out prematurely, or not flow when tables are combined.
