Who Should Win? Poker Experts ONLY please! lol
During Texas Hol 'em Poker
The Dealer deals this:
Q Q Q Q 9
(4 Queens and a 9, the suit is irrelevant)
Player 1 holds J 9 (Jack 9)
Player 2 holds A J (Ace Jack)
Who wins?
Player 1 with 4 of a kind and 9s because he matches? or
Player 2 with 4 of a kind Ace high?

poker is a 5 card game So ace beats 9 doesn't need an expert to answer this.
player 2 has qqqqA (wins)
player 1 has qqqq9 (loses)
player 2 has qqqqA (wins)
player 1 has qqqq9 (loses)

Re: Who Should Win? Poker Experts ONLY please! lol
thank you very much, and i agree a poker expert wasn`t necessary for this answer however a poker expert was requested bc of the intensity of the debate.
Player 1 truly believed he won with the J 9 because he matched the dealers card.
Q Q Q Q 9
Its only logic to assume the higher card wins in that instant bc 4 of a kind is one of the highest ranked poker hands in Texas Hol `em. A matched card would make the hand best 6, (Q Q Q Q 9 9) not best 5 (Q Q Q Q A)
So thank you for your replies. If anyone thinks it is still debatable please post a reply.

It's 100% cut and dried that the Ace wins - there is no debate. Tell your buddy that with a big smile

this guy still doesn't believe that Ace wins....I want to leave this forum open for another week or so before I give him the final remarks.
I am well aware that the Ace wins.
Is there any other way that the J 9 can win?
He is saying that because he matches the board with the 9 he wins. And the Ace Jack doesn't make a hand.???
If we weren't playing 5 card poker, i'm assuming he would win correct?
Keep the comments coming please. Every comment is appreciated!

Yes. If your mate ignores the normal rules and introduces new ones that say his hand wins.ItsNyce wrote:Is there any other way that the J 9 can win?
(You might want to agree this before the game starts though). Apart from that, you win, he loses.

Re: Who Should Win? Poker Experts ONLY please! lol
The only way i could see a card other then the ace win is if playing with wilds and 5th card was a wild , does anyone use wilds in Hold-em ? I would get up and leave a table if someone tried to have wilds in hld-em ?
If that was the case does 5 of a kind play ? or is it just still 4 of a kind with A kicker ? meh it is off topic and frivolous just a random thought that popped in my head :D

ok tell your buddy this...
a poker hand is made of 5 card. it's 5 cards and only 5 cards. it doesn't matter which cards are prettier. nowhere will you find an rule anywhere that states you can make a 6 handed poker hand.
makes sure he agrees on this basic fact.
if he heard of someone saying something different the ownice (sp?) is on him to prove otherwise.
now with that out of the way....
you hold A J and he holds J 9..
the board is QQQQ9.
what hand using only 5 cards do you want?
you use QQQQA (four of a kind with Ahigh)
if he wants to use the 9 on the board with his then he has...
9 9 _ _ _... now what 3 cards does he want to use to fill in the blanks?
if he wants to use the nines best hand he can have is QQQ99 and four of a kind beats a full house ...

If the board has quads and some random card on it, holding an Ace is the nuts. Your opponent could be holding KK and he'd still lose.
Ensano has it right - if he would like to use the 9 in his hand, tell him he is more than welcome but that leaves him with 99QQQ which your QQQQA beats.

well then if you can support your argument and he can't just call him out on being a baby..
just explain to him that no matter how much of a hissy fit he can't change the rules. if he want to play in a game where he can make up his own rules then he should go play poker HU with his mommy.
straight up don't ever let this guy do this to you again.. make sure you get your full pot..
