Who wins the pot?

Postby SVBugman » Thu Aug 11, 2011 11:12 pm GMT

We had the following situation arise in our home game tonight .... The community cards were two Aces, two Tens, and a King. There were two of us players who stayed to see the River. I had a pair of Sevens. My opponent had a Four and a Two. I maintain that we disregard the King and play the one highest card from our two pocket cards to determine the winner. Since my high pocket card was a Seven and my opponent's high pocket card was a Four, I claim that I won the pot. My opponent claims that we both have to use the King from the community cards and therefore we should have split the pot. Who is right?

You chop it as the best five cards are on the table. How both of you got to the river with 77 and 42 is the more important question

Yep, it's the best 5 card hand. The best hand on the board is AATTK, which both of you have since they are community cards, so you both split the pot.
