Again, look at what I said to the other guy, it's exactly the same. You have to make the best five card hand. AKKTT beats KTT88

Ignore Crack, triple pairs win every time. Only 7 card straights can beat them but they are very rare.

Don't forget, if you have 4 to the nut flush, since that's 80% of the winning hand, you get 80% of the pot.

I flopped four to the royal yesterday and got nothing. I'll go back and ask for a refund.

OK, Am I missing something here? Was there deleted spam in the two original posts or is there something else going on with the two first time posters here? As I look at the thread I see two brand new posters getting dumped on. I can imagine reasons why this could happen if the mods know someting about them that isn't obvious to the rest of us but if they are new members asking honest questions then why aren't we helping them? I remember when I was asking questions like this. I think it was Tuesday.

Re: Who wins this hand and why???
Saffman and neilink, As the others have said the best five cards play and sometimes a legitimate hand you have gets superceded. There is a name for this: The hand is "counterfeited". This is when your opponent didn't make a better hand such as 2 pr, trips, etc., from their own cards but the board creates a situation where your hand (in this case the pocket fives) doesn't play. Crack pointed out what the winning hand is and since there is no concept of "three pair" since that takes six cards one of the fives becomes a weak kicker to the two pair on the board and the opponent's king plays as the better kicker.
The worst counterfeiting I encountered was when I had pocket Aces in a tournament and ended up all in against a maniac player with Ace-6. The board put four fives on the river giving us BOTH quad fives with an Ace kicker--my "second" ace didn't play.

I thin you're right, Larry. It's just tedious to keep answering the same questions over and over when there is a) a search facility and b) a sticky thread explaining exactly this with clear directions on what to read before starting a new thread.

I'm tempted to rename the FAQ "Ignore this and do not read it" and see if it saves on these sorts of posts because curiosity will get the better of people.
