Why is the TRKing website so lame?

They don't display all their chip colors. The pictures are as small as they can possibly be. Some of the order minimums and pricing options are missing.

These guys must make a killing selling the chips. Why can't they proudly display their products on the website?

Has anyone ever asked them that and got an explanation? Anybody know if they have brochures, or a catalog, or something? It kind of bothers me that, in order to see some of the colors not pictured, I might have to order some samples and hope they send the colors not pictured. I don't know. It just rubs me the wrong way. This is the year 2005, isn't it? Wake up, and fix the damn website! lol

Okay! Okay! Okay! I'm sorry for dissing somebody's website. I still like their product, even though I haven't ordered samples yet. I would just like the site to be a little more informative, that's all. I hope my newbie attitude hasn't pissed you/some people off. I apologize.

Not sure why this is. I have spoken with Dennis at TR King 2-3 times and he is very friendly and helpful. However, it seems like he is the only person there and that he does everything. Also, his very short e-mail responsed might indicate that he may not be the best on the computer. Not sure though. Another idea is that the web-site is just for the home market and they make more producing for casinos.

Probably because they are the oldest (and continuously producing) poker chip company in existence. It's kind of fitting really.

p.s. I think you could argue that Chipco or ASM is the oldest, since the Burt co. was bought by Chipco, and ASM owns many of their molds?

The Nevada mold was sold to NevadaJacks.net and the chips are manufactured by Blue Chips. Jim Blanchard of ASM still owns the DIECARD mold and continues to make chips using that mold.

John Kendall acquired Burt Co. and ran the company until 1988 before it went out of business and that was when John founded Chipco and started making the "Protec" chips. He sold Burt Co.'s assets to Jim Blanchard of ASM and Burt Co. continued manufacturing under the name Atlantic Standard.

I think they are just that far behind the times. Dennis is good to work with though, and I have been nothing but happy with his service to date. He just seems to lack the necessary skills for the e-business world...

I was actually thinking about this - someone in that area with web design skills should really offer to go in as a consultant and clean that mess up! Whatever they charged would be a steal compared to the killing Dennis would make with a real business website. I mean, just think about how many people are turned off immediately by their website, and never even get to give the chips a chance...let me know if anyone decides to actually give this a shot.

I have in fact offered to Dennis a new website design in exchange for chips about a month ago. I brought to his attention all the posted problems with his site. The fact is, if I had not read about their product and it's quality I would never buy from them based on the website.

He responded to me via e-mail. Can't read to much into an e-mail but he sounded a little put off by my offer and explained that his site gets plenty of kudos for it's simplicity.

Oh well, I tried.

I talked to Dennis and he was aware that he needed an update. Sort of volunteered that sheepishly during a conversation.

I think that a 750 chip custom set, valued at the short-run price of $1.25 or $1.50 per chip may be too pricey. For someone to try to make what is essentially a sales pitch of their own services I personally would be put off if that person wasn't already a valued customer. And even there, I don't get into trading services a) because of tax implications and b) I want $$ for what I sell and not services. For sure, if I had a manager of a business, I would discourage them from offering 'in kind' because of problems with booking it and other problems.

I'm assuming for purposes of discussion that the underlying pitch was done well and didn't completely miss the customer (e.g. low tech guy maybe with some pride at the $$ or time put into the website when it was created a long time ago).

If I had any talent, I'd whip him up a site for free.

(My business still has a text blurb on it regarding my business... been meaning to do an update for 4 years but business still rolls in... word of mouth not through a website...)
