Winner showing a hand in a showdown

Hi all...this just occured at a tournament game I just played:
(Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, or in the rules, but I'm not really 100% clear on this after reading them

2 ppl are on the showdown for a particular pot. The guy who won PRIVATELY shows his hand to the other player, after which the player calls it good. I asked to see the winning hand, and the winner protested stating that since I did not call the pot (I had folded previously), that he was not required to show me his hand...I always assumed that the person that was called (and others who have potential winners) are required to show the hand in open view. No one else really knew what the rule was either way...so I just kinda conceded to his whim, as it was my first tournament, and didn't wanna ruffle any feathers. Now...am I right here? Or is he right?

In a situation like that, The guys usually flip them up on the table before the fianl card is dealt. But, yes, you get to see the winning hand.

One player at a table cannot benefit from information that the others don't have. If someone at a table sees certain cards, then everyone has to see them. ETIQUETTE.

Not only is this to be considered proper ettiquette, but it also is required at most of the tourneys I've played in. It's usually in the rules.

There is nothing however that prevents a player from showing his hand only to audience members or those not in the game. Though this could be considered showing off or being rude, it is certainly not proper ettiquette either.

If you find yourself in a game with players not adhering to the ettiquette of the game, you should leave if you have a choice.

if this guy pulled that at my house, not only would he not see another card, he would be escorted off the premises.
