WSOP Main Event in HD for 2007

Postby vyni » Mon Apr 23, 2007 5:06 pm GMT

From an article on TV Week
ESPN's popular summer coverage of the "World Series of Poker" is being upgraded to high-definition, sources familiar with the decision said.

Starting in July, 32 hours of coverage will be presented in HD for the first time. The coverage will include the main Texas Hold 'Em event as well as other World Series events. The tiny "hole-card cam" that briefly shows what each player is holding most likely be unconverted.

PSO site conflicts with this a bit...
I don't know their source which lead to the claim that all coverage would likely be hd. I would think not, as we can assume that this years profits from marketing during the event would be cripled in comparison to the last few years.
For the first time, ESPN will broadcast the World Series of Poker in high definition. This will reportedly include all of the events that the network will air, not just the Main Event. It is doubtful, however, that the hole card cameras will be high definition, but does that really matter?

The World Series of Poker will be the second poker television show to be broadcast in HD. The first was the National Poker League’s Vegas Poker Open, which runs on the INHD cable network.

I read this in one of the poker mags myself.

I also read where they are offering 4 WSOP braclets in Europe tournaments this year. The WSOP just has not been as prestigous in my opinion since Harrahs bought the rights to it. I mean this year alone they added another 7 or so tournaments. Pretty soon they will have enough tournaments that everyone can win one...or worse...someone will beat the record holders in one single year.

Bellagio said they are running a big week of tourneys again during the WSOP. They figure, as long as the pros are in town, they will run tourneys. Whoever runs bad at the WSOP will head to Bellagio. They did it last year at it was successful. I think they plan on a $25k event to wrap things up.
