PartyPoker Million V
Considered by many to be the best online tournament out there, the PartyPoker Million(PPM) tournaments have not only set a standard for online tournaments but for land-based (or ocean based?) tournaments also.
The PPM tournament takes place once a year and is always fixed limit texas holdem. Although the satellites and qualifiers take place online, the main tournament is live aboard a luxury cruise ship.
The PPM tournaments have a history of attracting big-time professionals as well. The winner of the PPM I was Kathy Liebert, who added $1 million to her lifetime winnings. PPM II's winner was Howard "The Professor" Lederer and PPM III's winner was Erick Lindgren, who also took home a cool mil. The winner of the last PPM V was not a professional though. He was 22 year-old Mike Schneider, a young "soft-spoken boy" from Minnesota.
The methods of winning your way into this monumental tournament include subqualifiers as low as $5+$1 and up to $675+$40 for a 20-person max tournament or a $250+$20 multi-table semi-final. Although the prize for winning a seat is $13,500, that includes the cost of riding on a luxury cruiser for a week, so only $10,200 of it has to go into the massive prize pool. :)
Another great feature of PartyPoker is their step tournaments, which gives consistently good players a better chance for their shot in the main event. During the last Party Poker Million tournament, the Step Tournaments had the following structure...
Step 1 - (direct buy-in for $11+$1)

2nd thru 5th - Try Step 1 again for free
